D’Angelo coming to the Midland theater in June

Neo-soul/R&B singer D’Angelo, who released the widely acclaimed “Black Messiah” album in December, will bring “The Second Coming Tour” to the Midland theater on June 11, a Thursday. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Prices: $48 to $68.

D’Angelo will be accompanied by the Vanguard, a band comprising bassist Pino Palladino, guitarists Jesse Johnson and Isaiah Sharkey, drummer Chris “Daddy” Dave, keyboardist Cleo “Pookie” Sample and vocalists Kendra Foster (long time member of George Clinton’s P-Funk), Charlie “Red” Middleton and Jermain Holmes.

“Black Messiah” is D’Angelo’s first album in 14 years. It features songs co-written with Q-Tip and Kendra Foster as well as co-production from Questlove of the Roots. At Metacritic, which compiles and quantifies music reviews, it has received a composite score of 95 out of 100.
