'Audrie & Daisy' official trailer
Netflix on Friday released a featurette of singer/songwriter Tori Amos talking about the song she created for its upcoming documentary “Audrie & Daisy,” which is partly about the 2012 sexual assault case in Maryville, Mo.
“This was something that left me in shock and sadness,” she said. “It brought up anger in me. It brought up grief.”
The Star detailed Daisy’s story in October 2013.
Amos’ song, “Flicker,” features Amos playing a piano and singing the lyrics “Heroines/they are not born/they are made/A phoenix forms/her ashes rise.”
“The phoenix out of the ashes was an image that I really saw when I looked at Daisy,” she said. “I began to understand the four-year journey she had to take in order to get to the place she is now, the place of empowerment.”
Amos said she feels like the film is required viewing for parents of young women and men.
“What it brings up for me as a mom is that it is a very tough conversation that you have with your daughter, your son,” she said. “I think this film is going to wake a lot of adults up.”
Netflix said a portion of the proceeds from the song will go to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network); Amos has been an active spokeswoman for the organization for over 20 years.
