Not only did Tate Stevens not get booted off Fox's "The X Factor" Thursday night, he was declared No. 1 in viewer votes.
In an unusual move for a show like this, "X Factor" revealed the vote rankings of the 13 remaining acts (but not the actual number of votes each earned). After Stevens' top ranking was revealed, he joked, "Obviously people in America don't get out a lot."
Then the country singer from Raymore thanked those who supported him.
No. 2 in votes from Wednesday night was Carly Rose Sonenclar. No. 3: Vino Alan from near Waynesville, Mo.
Viewers may have thought "X Factor" was down to 12 acts before Wednesday's broadcast, but a 13th act emerged. Teens singer Diamond White, who'd previously been ousted, was invited back.
To determine who would go home this week, the four judges were to have picked between bottom two vote-getters Jason Brock and Cece Frey. But after a sing-off, the judges deadlocked 2-2. Brock ended up exiting because he received the fewest public votes.
Wednesday, Stevens showed off his rock side with Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive." His wife and two kids were on hand at the Los Angeles auditorium to watch him perform.
Stevens watch-and-vote parties are being held Wednesday evenings at the Belton High School Freshman Center, 801 W. North Ave., Belton. Admission is free, but bring a nonperishable food item. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments and “Tate Nation” shirts are for sale.
"The X Factor" airs at 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox.
