Longtime fans will probably always call it Sandstone, but the amphitheater at Bonner Springs has a new sponsor name: Cricket Wireless Amphitheater.
And with that announcement comes an initial list of shows for 2012:
Country Throwdown featuring Gary Allan and friends (on sale March 31)
Vans Warped Tour (on sale April 6)
Dream Concert with tributes to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, U2 and the Eagles
Mayhem Festival with Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead, Anthrax, As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria, Whitechapel and High on Fire (on sale April 13)
Summerdaze Festival (lineup to be announced)
Tickets to concerts at the venue will be sold through Ticketmaster.
Venue officials also announced “Wild Country” weekends, which will feature country bands and DJs at the VIP Club and patio on select Friday and Saturday nights, with free parking, reduced drink prices and a barbecue food court. The first event is June 2 with Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders.
Cricket is the third sponsor to apply its name to the venue, which began as Sandstone, then became Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and, most recently, Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone Amphitheater.
According to the venue website,cricketwirelessamp.com, owners of Cricket phones will be allowed early entrance to concerts with up to three friends.
