Robert Trussell | KC Rep’s ‘Whipping Man’ delves into race, history and religion

“The Whipping Man,” directed by Kansas City Repertory Theatre artistic director Eric Rosen, offers a singular view of a seldom-explored corner of human experience. Although we know that there were Southern Jews who fought for the Confederacy and that some of them owned slaves, the intimate drama portrayed in this piece comes directly from the fertile imagination of playwright Matthew Lopez.
