Movie review | ‘The Help’ works magic in bringing novel to the screen

Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel “The Help” was good; hundreds of book-club members can’t be wrong about that. But it really needed a good editor — characters we can’t quite understand had to reveal themselves. Thanks to several Oscar-worthy performances in the film version that opens today, that mission is accomplished.
