America’s rural population has been shrinking for a century. Today, very few people younger than 40 have any memory of living in small towns or visiting relatives on the farm or taking part in 4-H. In lieu of that, their perceptions of rural life are formed entirely by the media. These days, that means reality TV shows, God help us.
