Kaplan’s platform is strong. It’s well organized, easy to move through, and it outlines everything you need to do in a simple, step-by-step format. In particular, I appreciated the use of just three tabs: the Study Plan, Channel, and Forum. The Study Plan includes everything you need to—you guessed it—study. That includes the core on-demand lessons, practice tests, explanation PDFs for prep tests, and so on.

As for the Channel, I love the number and variety of videos, both livestreamed and on-demand. It’s a great way to get specific questions answered, whether you plan ahead for a specific talk or find one happening in a few hours and drop in. Plus, during the week, they almost always took place after 5 PM PST, so I could drop in and do a bit of research after work. If you want a simple design that allows you to stay laser-focused on logical reasoning or reading comprehension, Kaplan delivers.

Videos and Interactive Activities

Kaplan’s learning takes place in small, 20-30 minute chunks, typically blending a learning video with an interactive activity that has you practice the new information. Sometimes, there’s a quick quiz at the end to reinforce the key concepts even further.

I really liked this strategy, because it made it easier to figure out A) whether I’d truly learned the material from the video content, and B) think about the topic in a variety of ways, so regardless of my learning style, the important points sank in with the repetition.

I do think it’s worth mentioning that the audio quality varied, and there were a few points where the material felt a little outdated. For example, in the interactive activity, you’re asked to type in an answer to a question. Rather than giving you a “correct” or “incorrect” evaluation, they just show you on the next screen what you should’ve written, which makes the activity feel a little silly. That said, I definitely think it works, and that’s what really matters. Plus, I could remember the main points weeks after originally learning them.
