Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy winner, made the wrong kind of headlines for his February 2017 arrest in Fayetteville, Ark.
Mayfield was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and fleeing after he tried to run from police who were investigating a fight at food trucks. Video of police officers tackling Mayfield went viral after the incident.
When he went to the NFL Combine, Mayfield probably expected to hear about it. Just not in the manner that Browns general manager John Dorsey, the former Chiefs GM, asked.
Sports Illustrated's Robert Klemko recounted the meeting between Dorsey and Mayfield at the Combine:
Right off the bat, before the handshakes and intros, and before the Heisman trophy winner sat down, Dorsey in his booming Southern Maryland drawl fired one across the bow.
“So you like food trucks?”
... With Dorsey’s jab, everyone had a nice laugh at Mayfield’s expense, Mayfield included. Then they got down to business.
