Joel and Ethan Coen, who venture into 1960s suburbia with "A Serious Man" on Friday, will next travel to the old West.

The director/writer brothers confirmed with Rotten Tomatoes this week that they're remaking "True Grit," the the 1969 Western that gave John Wayne his only Oscar. Jeff Bridges will take over Wayne's role of Rooster Cogburn. They said Matt Damon is in talks to play the lawman (Glenn Campbell's role), and Josh Brolin might play the murderer being hunted.

No word on who plays the girl whose father was killed, but the Coens say she'll play a bigger part in their version, just as the character did Charles Portis' novel. Filming could start next year.

In addition, the Coens are working on:

“The Yiddish Policemen’s Union”: They’re adapting Michael Chabon’s murder mystery set in an alternative reality, where the Alaska panhandle is the new Jewish homeland.

“Hail Caesar”: George Clooney might star in this comedy about a 1920s Shakespeare troupe.
