Her name was Shiloh Pepin, and you might have seen her story on TLC documentaries or last month on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
She was a little girl in Kennebunkport, Maine who was born with fused legs, a rare condition called "mermaid syndrome."
Doctors predicted she'd live only a few days after she was born.
Shiloh lived 10 years.
She died Friday at Maine Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized in critical condition with an infection for nearly a week. Her funeral will be on Wednesday.
She will be buried in the dress she picked out for her school picture.
In this show promo, her mother Leslie's words now sound haunting, and sad.
"Why is my daughter here? Why has she survived?
"Somebody forgot to tell her that she's supposed to die."
