Errani into quarters; Suarez Navarro exits Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein, Austria ( - Former French Open runner-up Sara Errani eased into the quarterfinals, while third-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro came up a second-round loser Thursday at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies tennis tournament.

The second-seeded Italian Errani erased Argentine Paula Ormaechea 6-3, 6-0, while 21-year-old American qualifier Shelby Rogers ousted the world No. 16 Suarez Navarro in 6-4, 6-0 fashion at this clay court event.

The 147th-ranked Rogers had never beaten a top-50 player before Thursday. She smacked 11 aces and dropped serve only once while saving 10 break points against Suarez Navarro.

Also on Day 4, seventh-seeded rising Italian Camila Giorgi drilled helpless Austrian wild card Lisa-Maria Moser 6-0, 6-2 and South Chanelle Scheepers knocked out fourth-seeded Austrian favorite and defending Bad Gastein champion Yvonne Meusburger 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Giorgi will face the Charleston, South Carolina native Rogers in Friday's quarterfinals.

Meusburger beat Czech Andrea Hlavackova in last year's final here.

The other quarters will pit Errani against Scheepers, fourth-seeded German and 2009 champion Andrea Petkovic versus Swiss Stefanie Voegele and eighth- seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova against American Grace Min.

The 2014 Bad Gastein winner will claim $47,000.
