Rybarikova ousts top-seeded Halep in New Haven

New Haven, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Magdalena Rybarikova took out top-seeded Simona Halep in the second round of the Connecticut Open tennis event on Tuesday.
Halep, the reigning champ in this final U.S. Open tune-up, had her serve broken six times and Rybarikova saved 10-of-14 break opportunities en route to a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
Second-seeded Petra Kvitova, last year's runner-up to Halep, had an easy time with Ekaterina Makarova, 6-2, 6-1, in a match that lasted 48 minutes on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
An upset came when American Alison Riske surprised sixth-seeded Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), while Barbora Zahlavova Strycova dismissed Caroline Garcia 7-5, 6-2.
