LAWRENCE | LaChelda Jacobs scored 18 points and Sade Morris added 17 — all in the second half — leading Kansas to a 76-55 win over Iowa on Tuesday.
Kansas, 2-0, also got 15 points and nine rebounds from Danielle McCray during a morning game that attracted a crowd of 5,186 at Allen Fieldhouse and was part of ESPN’s “24 Hours of College Basketball.”
“I’m just excited for our kids and for our fans,” Kansas coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “It was a great environment and there was great energy. It was clear early, if we could be as good as the crowd was going to be, we had a chance to be successful.”
After Iowa grabbed a 25-23 lead with 4:33 left in the first half, Kansas went on a 12-2 run, taking a 35-27 halftime lead.
Led by Jacobs and Morris, the Jayhawks increased that lead to double digits and also held Iowa, 1-1, scoreless for nearly six minutes in the second half.
For the game, Iowa shot only 38 percent and committed 23 turnovers.
Iowa’s Megan Skouby led all scorers with 33 points.
