Key stat: Freeman accounted for all but 2 of the 81 yards on K-State’s opening scoring drive.
SECOND QUARTER
Key play: K-State’s Reggie Walker broke through the line of scrimmage and swatted Justin Brantly’s punt early in the quarter. Courtney Herndon scooped it up and ran it in for a touchdown.
Key stat: For the first time since week two, K-State forced a turnover. Linebacker Alex Hrebec stuck Ryan Tannehill, who coughed up the ball. K-State recovered.
THIRD QUARTER
Key play: A&M was stopped on fourth and 8 at K-State’s 33 to open the second half when Jerrod Johnson scrambled for a 7-yard gain.
Key stat: 42, the amount of yards D.J. Fulhage’s punt flew. It was his only attempt of the game.
FOURTH QUARTER
Key play: What else? Josh Moore’s stops of Jorvorskie Lane on third and fourth down that kept the Aggies at bay.
Key stat: “The Drive” was tremendous — 16 plays and 98 yards in 7 minutes, 24 seconds.
Player of the game: Freeman. He joked afterward about running through huge holes, but he was efficient with his right arm (just five incompletions) and four more rushing touchdowns give him 12 for the season.
Reason to hope: Winning cures all. The Wildcats believe again, and it seems it was an issue of confidence all along. Freeman running the ball is a nice wrinkle, but it could backfire if he were to be injured.
Reason to mope: The defense, despite protests from its members to the contrary, is not any better. An average A&M offense shredded the unit. Not good.
Looking ahead: K-State goes to Colorado next week, and the Buffaloes are reeling, having lost three straight. The Wildcats won in Boulder in 2006, and beat Colorado in Manhattan last year. Interesting …
| A- | Offense | Diverse, which was nice. Eased up off the accelerator in the second half, probably in an effort to protect porous defense. Dold ran hard. Freeman did it all. |
| C- | Defense | Have to be encouraged by a semblance of a pass rush. Hello, Eric Childs. But still gave up 500-plus yards, which is becoming the norm. Better against the run, but still shaky as a whole. |
| A- | Special teams | A blocked punt and a return for a touchdown is huge, enough to make Ron Prince celebrate on the sideline. Brooks Rossman missed an extra point, but he also nailed a 49-yard field goal. |
| B+ | Coaching | Good rally game. Prince made sure the Wildcats were focused on the task at hand. Sitting on the ball before end of first half was questionable. |
