Students keep chanting
Despite a personal plea through e-mail and on the scoreboard from Kansas coach Mark Mangino to stop doing the profane kickoff chant, KU’s students were as loud as ever on Saturday when they yelled, “Rip his (expletive) head off!”
During the past week, the KU athletic department has been working with a group of student leaders to try and convince the students to stop doing the chant, which is potentially embarrassing to the university’s image nationally. Attempt No. 1 failed.
KU’s next home game is Oct. 25 against Texas Tech, so the anti-chant movement has two weeks to gain more steam and come up with a new form of persuasion.
•In his second game back from an undisclosed injury, KU cornerback Kendrick Harper intercepted a pass from Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins at the KU 4. Harper was also beat soon after for a Colorado touchdown.
“Kendrick’s coming around,” Mangino said. “Poor guy, he finally plays two weeks in a row. He’s a happy cat.”
•KU defensive tackle Caleb Blakesley and left guard Adrian Mayes both sustained injuries. No updates were available on Saturday.
