WACO, Texas | Oklahoma didn’t get caught looking ahead. With No. 5 Texas looming next on the schedule, the Sooners never gave Baylor a chance for an upset.
Sam Bradford threw for 372 yards with two touchdowns, DeMarco Murray ran for two scores and four other Sooners got into the end zone in another lopsided victory over the Bears, 49-17 on Saturday in the Big 12 opener for both teams.
Oklahoma, 5-0, this week moved into the No. 1 spot of the AP poll for a record 96th time, but first since 2003, after an upset-filled weekend when the Sooners were the only one of the top four teams to win. They seemed intent on making it 97 after their quick start against Baylor.
Manuel Johnson caught a 53-yard touchdown pass only 70 seconds into the game for the Sooners’ quickest opening score this season. They built a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Next week, the Sooners have their traditional second-Saturday-in-October meeting against the Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl — in the middle of the State Fair of Texas. But they made this trip across the Red River seem more like a glorified practice session.
Oklahoma has never lost to Baylor, 2-3, in 18 games. The last five in Waco have been decided by an average margin of 36 points.
Bradford was 23 of 31 with an interception, his only one in the last three games to go with 11 TDs.
No. 5 Texas 38, Colorado 14
BOULDER, Colo. | Chris Ogbonnaya scored two touchdowns and saved another in the Longhorns’ rout of the Buffaloes.
He scored on a 65-yard dump-off and a 13-yard gallop through the befuddled Buffaloes’ defense, then saved a score when he chased down cornerback Jalil Brown at the Texas 16 after a rare interception of Colt McCoy, who was picked off twice.
Ogbonnaya’s trio of tremendous plays helped the Longhorns, 5-0, 1-0, take a 21-0 halftime lead.
Ogbonnaya finished with a career-best 71 yards on nine carries and caught six passes for 116 yards, just four yards shy of Eric Metcalf’s 1985 school record for most yards receiving by a Texas running back.
McCoy completed 23 of 30 passes for 262 yards and two TDs.
Colorado fell to 3-2, 0-1.
No. 21 Okla. State 56, Texas A&M 28
STILLWATER, Okla. | Dez Bryant caught three passes for touchdowns and scored another on a punt return, and Oklahoma State took advantage of five first-half turnovers in rolling over Texas A&M.
The Cowboys set a school record by surpassing 50 points for the fourth straight game, with some big help from their defense and special teams. Ugo Chinasa and Patrick Lavine each scored on interception returns as Oklahoma State, 5-0, 1-0 in the Big 12, snapped a four-game losing streak to the Aggies.
Both of the interceptions thrown by A&M’s Jerrod Johnson tipped off receivers’ hands. Chinasa was there to catch the deflection for a 6-yard return in the first quarter, and Lavine brought back another carom for a 27-yard score to make it 28-7 just before halftime.
Zac Robinson added a 23-yard touchdown pass to Bryant and a 6-yard TD run in the third quarter for the Cowboys. Robinson finished 13 of 18 for 186 yards with the three passing TDs to Bryant and two rushing touchdowns.
