Sacramento and Connecticut both forced a decisive game three on Saturday in their WNBA playoff series.
The Monarchs easily topped San Antonio 84-67 in the Western Conference playoffs, while the Sun withstood a late New York rally to win 73-70 in the Eastern Conference.
Sacramento was led by Crystal Kelly, who started in place of Rebekkah Brunson and scored 19 points.
Brunson had to sit out her fourth straight game because of an injured right knee. Kelly was seven of nine from the field and made all five of her free throws.
Becky Hammon, who had 30 points in the series-opener, led the Silver Stars again with 14 points.
Connecticut’s Tamika Whitmore made two free throws in the final 30 seconds, helping the Sun fend off the Liberty.
Connecticut was paced by Asjha Jones, who scored 16 points. Lindsay Whalen added 15.
Loree Moore led New York with 16 points, and Janel McCarville and Shameka Christon had 11 apiece.
Both series will be decided on Monday night.
