The Star’s Blair Kerkhoff continues the daily countdown of our preseason top-25 college football teams.

•RETURNING STARTERS: 17

•OUTLOOK: Coach Joe Paterno begins his 43rd season as the head coach in Happy Valley, and don’t ask him how many years he has left. He gets testy at that question. Quarterback Anthony Morelli is gone, and stepping in are Daryll Clark and Pat Devlin. Clark is the spread offense guy; Devlin more of a dropback specialist. Both should see action. Maurice Evans returns as one of the Big Ten’s top defensive ends.
