Franklin sees bright days ahead for Missouri

One of Missouri’s departed football stars from last season sees better days in 2008 for the Tigers.

Wide receiver Will Franklin just signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs but says MU will improve even though he, tight end Martin Rucker, tailback Tony Temple and nose tackle Lorenzo Williams are gone.

“I definitely think so,” Franklin said. “That’s going to happen.

“We’ve been to where they’re trying to go again. They know what it takes to get there, and beyond. The ultimate thing is just to go out there and do it again.”

What it will take may be the kind of sacrifice that Franklin promised his teammates before the start of last season, in which fourth-ranked MU finished 12-2.

“That is no different from me telling the offense, two days before camp started, ‘Hey! I will take less catches, do anything, to help the team win.’ ”

That is why Franklin believes injured wide receiver Danario Alexander — coming off a second ACL surgery on his left knee — will play this season no matter if he can only play one or two games at full speed.

“He’s willing to set aside his personal goals,” Franklin said. “That’s what it is about to win at a high level.

“They’ve seen that. They see where I am now. If Will is willing to make those sacrifices, I can do those things and still come out on top too.”

Daniel to Elite 11

Mizzou quarterback Chase Daniel is headed to the Elite 11 high school quarterback camp as a mentor and coach for the second straight season.

Last year Daniel helped out Blaine Gabbert, who was committed to Nebraska but later switched to MU and is currently working out in Columbia.
