Rangers’ Bradley gets a bit upset with Royals broadcaster Lefebvre

As the Royals slide back to being the worst team in baseball, there is still rarely a dull moment at Kauffman Stadium.

Excitement broke out after the game when Texas’ fiery outfielder Milton Bradley, who was the designated hitter Wednesday, was upset by some words he heard from Royals television announcer Ryan Lefebvre and made a dash up to the fourth floor to confront Lefebvre.

As Bradley was coming down the stairs, he was flanked by Rangers general manager Jon Daniels.

“I wouldn’t hurt anybody,” Bradley said. “I just wanted to introduce myself. Maybe he doesn’t know who I am.”

Bradley was unable to reach Lefebvre, but he was still emotional about it a few minutes later.

Then in the clubhouse, as outfielder David Murphy was answering questions, Bradley was pacing back and forth, talking about how, “I’m still leading the league after being in a hospital with nobody giving me a chance.

“I’m tired of people breaking me down. All I want to do is play baseball, that’s it. Raise my family, raise my sons, so they’ve got a better life than me. I’m strong but I’m not that strong, you know? It wears on me.”

Lefebvre said all he was doing was complimenting Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton and how he turned his life around.

“He (Hamilton) has been accountable for his mistakes and how the baseball world are rooting for him, and Frank (White) and I were having a conversation about it’s a shame that it doesn’t appear Milton Bradley has done the same thing in his life.

“From what I remember of the conversation we were complimenting Josh Hamilton and not singling out Milton Bradley. We also spent a lot of time complimenting Milton Bradley, but that’s not what he heard when he was in the clubhouse.”

    Shining in the sun

It seems just about every time Brian Bannister makes a start, it’s under the sun.

Bannister will make his eighth daytime start today in the final game of a three-game series. This will be Bannister’s third straight start in the afternoon.

“It has been crazy,” Bannister said. “I know I have a couple of more coming up. It always seems to work that way. It worked that way for me in the minor leagues. I don’t know how it happens but I always seem to pitch in day games.”

Bannister has had plenty of success this season pitching during the daytime. Bannister, 5-6 overall, is 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA in the daytime.

Bannister, though, faltered a little in his last start on a hot Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The Royals built a 5-1 lead, but Bannister gave up four runs and five hits in the fourth and wound up getting a no-decision.

    Sore point for Soria?

One of the reasons Royals manager Trey Hillman didn’t use Joakim Soria on Tuesday was because he said Soria experienced some tightness in his backside.

When Hillman was asked about Soria’s condition 3 hours before game time Wednesday, Hillman said he hadn’t talked to Soria about it. When Soria was asked about the tightness 90 minutes later, he said you have to talk to Hillman about it.

As it turned out, Soria wasn’t going to be used in Wednesday’s game because of the tightness.
