    Mashup: It’s a penny-ante payment for Griffey

Ken Griffey Jr. might not be baseball’s biggest star anymore — it has been a long time since that cameo on “The Simpsons” — but he might be the funniest player in the sport.

Griffey owed $1,500 to teammate Josh Fogg and, according to The Associated Press, paid up in pennies.

•Big Brown: So if the colt wins the Preakness today — as he is the favorite to do — and gets in position to win a Triple Crown, how much will UPS benefit from its marketing agreement with his jockey and owners?

•Cleveland pitchers: Opposing hitters want to run into these guys as much as a big toe wants to run into a door. They went 44 1/3 innings without allowing a run, the longest such streak since 1974. These guys couldn’t be any more untouchable if they were directed by Brian De Palma.

    Holding steady

Tony Parker: The Spurs face the Hornets in New Orleans for game seven on Monday. Wonder whether that fan who on Tuesday used a cardboard cutout of Parker’s wife, actress Eva Longoria, as a free-throw-line distraction will be there?

    Slipping

Justine Henin: Everybody wants to go out on top, but Henin was the No. 1 player in the world when she shut it down on Wednesday. That was more of a surprise than when your editor takes your best joke out of a column without telling you first.

•Green Bay Packers team president Mark Murphy told the Wisconsin Associated Press Editors Association that he wants to make training camp more of an event for fans. Here’s a suggestion: Make sure Brett Favre is there.

Charles Barkley: Owes a $400,000 debt to a Las Vegas casino and could faces felony charges if he doesn’t pay up, The Associated Press reported. Barkley said he was going to take care of the debt, but did this mean he was going to take the Wynn Casino out of his “fav five”?

Tony Romo: If you believe unconfirmed Internet reports, the Cowboys quarterback and actress-singer Jessica Simpson are no longer dating. Spokespeople said they were still a couple.

Blah, blah … I say that’s the last time you’ll ever see their names here until Romo wins a playoff game and she makes a movie that doesn’t go straight to DVD.
