The Buzz: Quin Snyder happy with gig in NBA Developmental League

More News

Snyder happy in Texas

The Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League were eliminated in the championship series Friday after losing 108-101 to Idaho. So Quin Snyder’s team doesn’t have to share a practice facility with homeless people.

According to ESPN.com, Snyder’s team earlier this month had to move practice temporarily from a convention center to a recreation center where homeless people showered.

While the Toros finished 30-20 in relative anonymity in Austin, Texas, Snyder, the former Missouri coach, was happy as a clam.

“There’s an assumption that I want to be an NBA assistant or that I want to go back to college,” Snyder told ESPN.com, “and when I hear that, I know I’m right on where I am right now because it reminds me that I think I’m in tune with what is giving me fulfillment. And, believe it or not, I’m as fulfilled as I’ve ever been.”

Late-night golf

NBC is taking advantage of the West Coast time difference for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego. The third round on June 14 is scheduled to conclude at 9 p.m. Central time, and the fourth supposedly will finish at 8 p.m. But since these things always go long, golfers could be holing out just before the late news.

Karatantcheva wins after ban

Formerly banned Sesil Karatantcheva won her first WTA Tour match in nearly 2 1/2 years, beating Elena Baltacha 7-5, 6-2 at the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Fez, Morocco.

It was Karatantcheva’s first tour match since November 2005 at Philadelphia. After reaching the French Open quarterfinals at 15 in 2005, she tested positive twice for the steroid nandrolone.

Masters starter dies

Phil Harison, who introduced everyone from Ben Hogan to Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods during his 60 years as the starter on the first tee of the Masters, has died. He was 82. He died Sunday, Augusta National Golf Club said.

Harison was one of two people to attend every Masters since it began in 1934, and he became a familiar voice to the many fans who grew accustomed to his Southern drawl and understated manner of announcing each player.

Clemens denies accusation

Roger Clemens had a decadelong relationship with country star Mindy McCready that began when she was a 15-year-old aspiring singer, the New York Daily News reported. Roger Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed a long-term relationship but said it was not sexual.

“Mindy McCready is a longtime family friend of Roger Clemens and the Clemens family,” Hardin said in a statement. “At no time did Roger engage in any kind of inappropriate or improper relationship with her. It is unfortunate that the Daily News has chosen to report anonymous allegations that are completely unfounded, have no basis in fact and have nothing to do with Roger’s baseball career or the issue of steroid use in baseball.”

Back in action
