Royals fans had to navigate a new parking system and more crowded concourses Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium but didn’t appear otherwise too hindered by renovations.
Royals fans had to navigate a new parking system and more crowded concourses Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium but didn’t appear otherwise too hindered by renovations.
Fans were sent to parking lots closest to their entrance gates, and cars could not go from one side of the stadium to the other. This led to roundabout routes to lots, causing backups not uncommon in sold-out games.
“I thought they did a good job,” said Gary Panethiere as he arrived at the turnstile about 40 minutes before game time.
Some concourses are narrower because temporary plywood walls have been built to shield construction. This resulted in jammed concourses.
The team added temporary toilets to replace ones removed for construction. Long lines resulted.
Toby Cook, the Royals’ vice president for community affairs and publicity, said Tuesday night that he had not heard of any big problems caused by construction.
Fans did find certain areas blocked off as stadium buildings are being expanded.
“You need a hard hat around here,” one person suggested.
With a city ordinance prohibiting smoking on concourses, designated smoking areas are located near the turnstiles.
