The Royals are characterizing 2008 as the start of a new blue tradition. That means a bunch of new faces. The Star will reintroduce one newcomer each day to get you prepared for that first workout in Surprise, Ariz.
Meet: Pitcher Brett Tomko
Acquired: Signed Jan. 21 to a one-year contract for $3 million.
How he fits: Enters camp as the club’s preferred option as the No. 4 starter but could end up in the bullpen.
Key stat: Last year’s 5.55 ERA, while splitting time with the Dodgers and Padres, was the worst of his career.
