OAKLAND | A lead is a lead, and a rushing touchdown is something for the success-starved Chiefs to feel good about. It only took eight-plus weeks.

Jamaal Charles broke a 44-yard run and, yes, reached the end zone on the ground for Kansas City's first rushing score of the season. The Chiefs were the last NFL team to score their first rushing TD, but now that streak is broken. Kansas City hopes an imperfect first half, in which the Chiefs hold a 13-10 lead, might be the start of their second victory of the season.

Oakland is helping Kansas City reach that goal. A series of dropped passes, unusual decisions, and JaMarcus Russell's ordinary mistake-prone play have helped the Chiefs overshadow a few errors of their own. Dantrell Savage muffed a punt, leading to a Raiders field goal. The Chiefs defense opened a gaping hole that Oakland running back Michael Bush didn't miss. He went up the middle for a 60-yard gain, and two plays later, the Raiders were in the end zone.

Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has an interception, but he seems to be building trust with newly acquired wide receiver Chris Chambers. The speedy wideout has catches of 29 and 24 yards, and Cassel seems to have settled down.

Kansas City's inactives include two of Cassel's favorite targets this season, wide receiver Bobby Wade and tight end Sean Ryan. Backup safety DaJuan Morgan also is inactive.
