To make roster room, the Chiefs released wide receiver Bobby Engram.
Smith hasn’t played in a game since injuring his knee in a November game last year against Tampa Bay. But he could play a key role today.
The Chiefs will play for the first time this season without Larry Johnson, who is suspended. Jamaal Charles will also get work at running back and Dantrell Savage could also play.
Engram was one of the Chiefs’ major offseason offensive acquisitions but he never had much of an impact. He caught five passes for 61 yards. Engram’s playing time has diminished in recent games, and he no longer had a playing role after recent acquisitions of Chris Chambers and Lance Long.
