Only one girls basketball team from the Kansas City area will reach the Missouri Class 5 Final Four at Mizzou Arena. The battle for that lone spot is still a month away, but it's shaping up to be a good one.

Kearney and Truman have solidified themselves as the two teams to beat, and the state's coaches see it the same way.

Kearney,

which remains unbeaten at 14-0, is ranked second in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association poll. Truman, 15-1, is No. 5

. Kearney defeated Truman 40-35 in a district championship game last March, giving the Patriots their only loss of the season.

Rock Bridge, the defending state champions, holds the No. 1 spot in Class 5. The Bruins, 14-2, suffered a pair of two-point losses in an out-of-state tournament to open the season but haven't lost since.

In Missouri Class 4, Smithville is ranked fourth. The team is seeking its fourth straight trip to the state tournament.
