Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland tore the meniscus in his left knee last week in one of the most bizarre ways possible.

After many speculated Holland hurt his knee while playing hockey, Holland told ESPN that his dog, Wrigley, "clipped" his leg as he was climbing the stars. Guess we'll have to take his word on that.

In any sort, Holland may miss half the 2014 season, which opens up a spot in the Rangers' rotation.

According to the Rangers' MLB website

, the leading candidate to assume that spot is Nick Tepesch, a Blue Springs High School product.

Tepesch finished 2013 — his rookie season — with a 4-6 record and a 4.84 ERA in 17 starts and two relief appearances.
