With the forecast calling for stormy weather later today and homecoming and other activities planned for tonight, some schools have elected to move up their Friday night football kickoff times.

Mill Valley, which hosts fellow unbeaten Bonner Springs for the Jaguars’ homecoming game tonight, will kick off an hour early, at 6 p.m. The change, according to a note sent to parents this morning, will help account for possible delays should there be lightning in the area.

Kickoff for St. James Academy’s game against Louisburg at St. Thomas Aquinas has also reportedly been moved up to 6 o’clock.

The foul weather is forecast to roll in from the west this afternoon and evening, meaning schools on the western edge of the Metro will be the first to feel its effects. Kansas High School Activities Association policy calls for a 30-minute delay each time lightning strikes in the vicinity of a game.
