Happy Friday Kansas City area high school football fans. Wow, I’ve barely finished my cup of coffee and it’s Week 3 of the high school football season!
Anybody else excited because tonight will finally have the fall feel of a Friday night in September? Put away your mist fans.
Tonight, The Star will be out and about again with reporters at five games and three photographers capturing terrific images for the newspaper and website photo galleries.
We’re sending Sam McDowell to the Rockhurst at Blue Springs game. Rock is 0-2 and faces another challenge in the defending state champion Wildcats. This game has a way of being close, perhaps because these two coaches are so familiar with one another. Will tonight be any different?
On the Kansas side, Todd Engle will be reporting from Olathe South at Shawnee Mission West, where two of the top linemen in the city -- Olathe South’s Braden Smith and SM West’s Austin Chambers -- will be dominating the trenches. Also, Charles Redfield will bring you a game story from Blue Valley West at St. Thomas Aquinas, pitting a defending state finalist (West) against the Eastern Kansas League defending champ (Aquinas).
Two other Missouri smaller school games are intriguing and we’ll have reporters at both. Zach Spain will file from the Hogan Prep at Center matchup and Dave McQueen will report from the Nevada at Oak Grove game.
Check us out later tonight on our website at KansasCity.com/highschools and in Saturday morning’s sports section.
