ABOUT FC DALLAS (8-4-4, 28 points): FC Dallas is unbeaten in its last five games, climbing into a tie for first place in the Western Conference entering the weekend. It has won three times on the road this season, tied for most in the league. Despite missing five games, midfielder Mauro Diaz is tied for third in MLS with five assists. The defense has allowed the second fewest shots per game in the league, behind only Sporting KC.
ABOUT SPORTING KC (5-8-3, 18 points): The club has won only once in its last 11 MLS matches, even though it has one of the league’s best defenses, allowing only 1.13 goals per game. Sporting KC has taken the second most shots per match in MLS this season, but an ongoing problem has been accuracy — only 29 percent of its shots find the target. Sporting KC is coming off a victory in the U.S. Open Cup earlier this week, but it has not played an MLS match in two weeks. The club remains without Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, who are with the U.S. men’s national team for Copa America.
BOTTOM LINE: Sporting KC has lost four times at home this season, twice as many as 2015, but it remains only two points shy of a Western Conference playoff berth. To make a second-half surge, it must produce results on its home field.
PREDICTION: Sporting KC 1, FC Dallas 1
