The Chad Ochocinco soccer experiment was short-lived, but the former NFL wide receiver says he’s talented enough to make a second career out of it.
In Kansas City, no less.
In 2011, Ochocinco, then a Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, joined Sporting Kansas City for a six-day trial, and he even appeared in a reserve league game. It was, of course, largely a publicity stunt, which served its purpose in growing the club’s social and digital platforms.
Five years later, no longer in the NFL, Ochocinco says he’s a talented enough soccer player to make the Sporting KC roster — if he receives the opportunity.
Never miss a local story.
“If I were able to get that trial with Sporting KC now, I would make the team,” Ochocinco told ESPN.
“Yeah, because my touch and my skill has come back,” he added. “I haven’t played football in the past five years, and I’ve been playing back on the pitch the past five years.”
