WHEN/WHERE: 6 p.m. Sunday at CenturyLink Field, Seattle
TV/RADIO: Fox Sports 1; KDTD (1340 AM)
ABOUT SPORTING KC: In six all-time trips to Seattle, Sporting KC has won only once — a 1-0 victory in 2009. It opens the 2016 season in search of its sixth consecutive postseason appearance, though the last two seasons concluded without a playoff win. Finding consistency on the back line was a major point of emphasis for the club this offseason, and newcomer Nuno André Coelho will likely start alongside Matt Besler in the center of the defense. Benny Feilhaber and Brad Davis are questionable to play Sunday with minor muscle injuries.
ABOUT SEATTLE: The Sounders have already played two competitive matches this season in the CONCACAF Champions League, which Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes believes gives the home team an advantage on opening day. The Sounders welcome highly touted forward Jordan Morris into the fold this season to play alongside U.S. men's national team regular Clint Dempsey.
Never miss a local story.
PREDICTION: Seattle 2, Sporting KC 1
