There will be a few changes locally this year for Sporting Kansas City broadcasts. For starters, you'll find the games on a new channel this year, KMCI-TV (38 the Spot).
On Friday, the team announced that there would be a new voice in the broadcast booth too: Diego Gutierrez, a former captain of the Kansas City Wizards and a graduate of Blue Springs High School, will join Callum Williams in the booth this year as color commentator. Jake Yadrich will move down to the sideline.
"I'm glad to be back with Kansas City and join the club again," Gutierrez said in a team press release. "It's something that is really rewarding, for me especially being a Kansas City guy. I find myself in a dream type scenario where we are now with a beautiful stadium, great fans and a championship team. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season."
Gutierrez began his 13-year career in Kansas City back in 1996 for the first of his six seasons with the club. He played in 316 MLS matches (including postseason) with 13 goals and 46 assists. He retired in 2008. In 2010, he joined the Philadelphia Union as head of scouting and player development before becoming the team's sporting director in 2012. Currently, he's an on-air analyst for Fox Sports 1.
