Defender Chance Myers suffered tightness in his quadriceps and was removed in the first half. It's not expected to be a serious injury. Kansas CIty's lone goal in the game from the one player that isn't on the roster or part of its recent draft class: Trialist Jermone Mechack. (He's a Haitian right back who plays for Kansas City's USL Pro affiliate Orlando City.) Other notables: • New designated player Claudio Bieler made his first appearance of the year, starting and going 30 minutes before coming off. • With Matt Besler not joining the team after U.S. national cap, Peter Vermes opted for Ike Opara to start next to Aurelien Collin in defense. • Former Sporting defender Michael Harrington started for the Timbers against his old team. • Shawnee Mission South grad Christian Duke also got his first start for KC. • The other non-roster players to see the field for KC: left back Brian Fekete and right winger Mike Reidy, both came on as second-half subs. Next up for Sporting Kansas City: A few days training at Swope Park before moving to Orlando to train for the Disney Pro Soccer Classic. The team faces Montreal on Saturday at 2 p.m. to open group play. Kansas City will also play D.C. United (Feb. 13) and the NASL's Tampa Bay Rowdies (Feb. 16).
Hey everyone thanks for all the tweets and prayers. Scary moment for sure but glad to say everything is ok.— Soony Saad (@SoonySaad) February 2, 2013
