U.S. Soccer announced Monday that the Oct. 16 World Cup qualifying match between the U.S. men’s national team and Guatemala at Livestrong Sporting Park is a sellout.
Both teams currently have seven points in CONCACAF Group A, tied for first with Jamaica, but the U.S. and Guatemala are first and second based on goal differential. Kickoff for the match is set for 6 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2 and Univision.
It is the final match for both teams in the semifinal round of qualifying in the CONCACAF region. The top two teams in from each of three groups advance to the final CONCACAF qualifying stage, which will be played in 2013. The top three teams from that stage advance to the World Cup. The fourth-place team plays a two-leg playoff with the winner of the Oceania region for a World Cup spot.
All fans are invited to a free public training session at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at Livestrong. By registering at ussoccer.com, fans also can win a chance to meet U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann for a special session before the event.
