Two big pieces of news coming out of Sporting-land today. The first: If Sporting Kansas City advances past Philadelphia, Livestrong Sporting Park will host the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup finals (on either August 7 or 8, depending on the opponent).
That's huge. It would mean a home game for KC in the final of a tournament that guarantees qualification into the CONCACAF Champions League.
But first things first, KC has to beat Philadelphia on Wednesday. (As of this writing, the broadcast details for that match haven't been released.)
The second piece of news is that Sporting have signed some central defensive depth: Neven Markovic.
Markovic is a 25-year-old who comes to KC from Doxa Drama FC in the Greek Superleague. He's a well-traveled (with Serbian and Croatian citizenship) and left-footed defender.
To make room for him, KC waived defender Shawn Singh.
More information coming later this evening from The Star's Tod Palmer.
