Sporting Kansas City suffered the agony of defeat for the first time in the preseason.
The Vancouver Whitecaps won 3-0 after scoring three goals in a 20-minute span of the second half on Wednesday in the 2012 Disney Pro Soccer Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla.
Vancouver opened the scoring five minutes into the second half on a goal from Sebastien Le Toux. Davide Chiumiento got the ball on the left side of the penalty area and Sporting goalie Jon Kempin, a Blue Valley North High School graduate, came out to pressure Chiumiento, who slipped a pass to Le Toux for the simple volley in the middle of the goalmouth.
Second-half substitute Russell Teibert made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when his low, driven shot slipped inside the right post from 20 yards out.
Vancouver finished the scoring in the 67th minute on Carlyle Mitchell’s goal from the middle of the penalty area. Jordan Harvey had an assist on the goal.
Sporting Kansas City finished 0-1-2 at the Disney Classic. It had a scoreless draw with Houston and tied Montreal 1-1.
Sporting concludes its preseason preparation at 10 a.m. today with a scrimmage against the U.S. under-17 national team in Orlando.
