Sporting Kansas City’s Teal Bunbury is among eight forwards who were invited Thursday to the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team training camp, which concludes Feb. 29 with a battle against Mexico at FC Dallas Stadium. The 10-day camp, which begins Feb. 19 in Frisco, Texas, will help flesh out the final roster for the 2012 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which takes place March 22-April 2.
Bunbury, who will turn 22 on Feb. 27, spent two weeks in January at a training camp with the full national team.
Last year, Bunbury tied for the team-high in goals (nine) during his second season with Sporting KC. He also added three assists and tallied two more goals in the club’s Eastern Conference semifinals win against the Colorado Rapids.
The final leg of Olympic qualifying will take place at Livestrong Sporting Park with the top two teams from each pool meeting in the semifinals March 31. Those teams, which play for the championship April 2 at Livestrong, will advance to the 2012 Olympics in London.
