Greetings from Tucson! We’ve been in Tuscon now for the better part of a week, and everything is great, but we didn’t start the trip off on the best foot. Everyone was anxious and excited to get to the airport in Kansas City, but upon arrival we were informed that there was a two-and-a-half hour delay. Brutal. Much to the chagrin of guys who weren’t familiar with Arizona before our arrival, we were greeted with a two-hour bus ride from Phoenix to Tucson.
Travel days are always long, so when we finally arrived at the hotel it was a relief. The entire coaching staff met us outside, giving us high-fives and welcoming us to our new home until Feb. 14.
It’s so nice to finally train outside again. I did a lot of training in the offseason, but all of it was inside. This was the first time I got to train on grass with a soccer ball. It felt...natural again. The first week at Arrowheadwas a bit of a tease; short practices, indoors, turf, no full-sided games.
It’s great to have everyone on the same page to start the season. The new players are quickly getting acclimated to the standard of our team. We are so ready to start this season and we’re still using that confidence we had last year, while staying hungry so we can take the next step.
Training is intense, but we still have plenty of downtime the rest of the day, so guys are always trying to find things to do between practices. There have been a few intense poker games. Michael Harrington came into preseason talking a pretty big game, but I think he’s been first out each time.
Even though we’re away from Kansas City, there’s still a good amount of sports fans on our team, and we’re all excited for KU-Mizzou (today).
