It's finally official – Sporting Kansas City forward C.J. Sapong has been named this year’s Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year.
The league announced today that Sapong, 22, beat out Philadelphia midfielder Michael Farfan and D.C. United defender Perry Kitchen for the award. Sapong finished among the rookie leaders in regular-season goals and assists with five apiece. He also earned 22 regular-season starts this season for a team that finished 12-9-13, finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference and reached the conference finals.
Sapong, who went to James Madison, was taken 10th overall in January’s draft.
