A rough few days just got rougher for Sporting Kansas City, as it was revealed Tuesday that recently signed defender Daneil Cyrus is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fractured left foot.
Cyrus, 20, injured the foot in a reserve league game on Monday. His injury is the latest blow to a central defense that is expected to be without starter Aurelien Collin for at least a few more weeks because of fractures in his lower back.
The news also comes on the heels of Sporting’s 2-1 loss to Seattle on Saturday, as the Sounders took advantage of a man advantage to score two late goals and snap Sporting’s 14-game unbeaten streak.
Since he was signed in mid-July, Cyrus has played in one MLS game and recorded three fouls.
