The last few weeks have been pretty good for the Missouri Comets. They've clawed back into the Major Indoor Soccer League playoff race and, today, forward Byron Alvarez was named the Player of the Week. Alvarez leads the MISL in scoring.
“He’s really playing with a lot of confidence right now,” Comets head coach Kim Roentved said. “A good player steps up to the plate when it really counts, and Byron has done just that.”
Alvarez, a Mexico City, Mexico native, racked up his points last week during two big Comets victories. The first was at home on Friday against the Omaha Vipers, where he notched a hat trick that included the game-winner. Then on Saturday against the Riot in Chicago, Alvarez netted two goals to go along with two assists.
“I am thrilled and humbled by this honor,” Alvarez said. “If it weren’t for such great teammates and an incredible coaching staff, I could not have had the week that I did.”
The next game for the Comets is this Sunday at 3:10 p.m. at the Independence Events Center against the Chicago Riot. It is the last regular season home game for the Comets, who have won three in a row and are tied for the last playoff spot with the Omaha Vipers.
