Four Sporting Kansas City players have been selected for their respective national teams for competition this week: Defender Shavar Thomas (Jamaica), midfielders Craig Rocastle (Grenada) and Stephane Auvray (Guadeloupe), and goalkeeper Jon Kempin (U.S. under-20 team).
Thomas, Auvray and Rocastle will be participating in the Digicel Caribbean Cup; Kempin in the Torneo de las Americas.
This will be the first international appearance for Rocastle, who accepted an invitation from Grenada for this tournament. Grenada's first game will be Friday against Martinique in the Group H opener.
Thomas and Jamaica will face Antigua and Barbuda on Saturday; Auvray and Guadeloupe will face Guyana on Saturday.
For Kempin, he was invited to join the U.S. U-20 team for two games in the Torneo de las Americas, a round-robin tournament in Kennesaw, Ga. The U.S. will face Colombia on Friday and Mexico on Saturday. Kempin is one of two 'keepers in Thomas Rongen's squad.
In other international news, striker Sunil Chhetri continues his loan with the Indian national team in exhibitions this week in Dubai. Chhetri suffered an ankle injury in training this month and has yet to return as India prepares for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in January.
