The Missouri Comets continued to fill out their roster over the weekend, announcing two new signings. The Comets open play on Nov. 12 against the Milwaukee Wave at the Independence Events Center.
The Comets signed forward Leo Gibson, of Monrovia, Liberia, and midfielder Vahid Assadpour, of Toronto.
"Gibson is lightening quick with a knack for finding the back of the net, and Vahid is as steady as they come and a fierce competitor," said head coach, Kim Roentved. "Both of these guys just gave us the scoring punch we’ve been looking for."
This brings the total number of players signed by the Comets to six out of the twenty slots available.
Gibson played last season with the Rockford Rampage in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Before that, he was an integral part of the Detroit Ignition's Xtreme Soccer League title run in 2008-09. He signed a one-year contract.
Assadpour was Gibson's teammate on the Ignition's championship team and was the team's leading scorer and assist leader. He has signed a two-year contract.
In other MISL news, the league hasn't released a full schedule because of team upheaval. Last week, the MISL announced that the Philadelphia, Monterrey and Rockford franchise will not be in the league this season. Though Monterrey will return next year.
The league currently has five teams: Missouri Comets, Omaha Vipers, Milwaukee Wave, Baltimore Blast and an as-of-yet unnamed Chicago franchise.
