Jimmy Nielsen won his fourth NAPA MLS Save of the Week award, which gives him a very comfortable lead in MLS save of the week honors. No other 'keeper has won twice. Further more: He's near the top of every goalkeeper statistic MLS makes available and has three top-flight nicknames.
In other words, the Danish goalkeeper has been incredible and, if it weren't for him, Kansas City might be in an even worse position than it is now. If you can imagine that.
The save that got him this week's award washis one-handed tip save against the Columbus Crew's Adam Moffatt
On the season, Nielsen has allowed 1.25 goals per game (7th in MLS, wrongly inflated because of defensive lapses against NYRB and RSL), made 51 saves (tied for 3rd), faced 71 shots (tied for 4th) and posted 6 shutouts (also tied for 4th).
He's also the only 'keeper in the league with three top-flight nicknames: The White Puma (my favorite), Casino Jimmy (hasn't caught on here, is big in Denmark) and Jimmy "Freaking" Nielsen (though, I'm not sure that's precisely the word I've heard used in the middle).
Congrats to Jimmy.
