Chiefs safety Eric Berry will give away 500 backpacks with school supplies on Aug. 8

Through his foundation, Chiefs safety Eric Berry will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies to 500 youths Aug. 8.

The event, which will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods located at 17730 E. 39 St. in Independence, also will feature games and free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips ice cream and beverages.

Berry will sign autographs throughout the event and be joined by Sporting Kansas City defender Chance Myers and 2014 Miss Kansas, Charity Stowers.

Berry founded the Eric Berry Foundation in his hometown of Fairburn, Ga., with the goal of having a direct impact on the community’s youths. Through his foundation, he also has held a summer football camp in Kansas City for the last few years.
