Chiefs rookie cornerback Phillip Gaines was held out of Wednesday’s practice for rookies and selected veterans because of a hamstring injury.
Gaines, the club’s third-round draft pick from Rice, apparently was injured on Tuesday while breaking up a pass on the sidelines.
Gaines was on the sidelines riding the stationary bike, carrying some weights and working with the training staff along with another rookie cornerback, David Van Dyke, who is out with a hamstring.
The rookies and selected veterans concluded three days of practice on Wednesday without veteran quarterbacks Alex Smith and Chase Daniel, who worked with them on Monday and Tuesday and were given the day off.
Second-year man Tyler Bray and rookie Aaron Murray shared the quarterback duties.
