. Charles, who has a strained foot, doesn’t need the work, not to mention the beating he might take even by getting just a few carries.
His backup, Knile Davis, needs the work. Davis, a rookie from Arkansas, has looked good when running the ball at training camp but has other issues to the point where he could benefit from the extra snaps.
Davis has dropped a ton of passes at camp. After Charles left the lineup in practice this week, Davis lined up incorrectly on one play, forcing the Chiefs to retreat to the huddle. Davis also ran the wrong play on another occasion, leaving no one for quarterback Alex Smith to hand the ball to.
So, the drama of Smith’s reunion with his former team aside, Davis might be the biggest issue for the Chiefs tonight. I’ll also be looking to see how the defense, which played just six snaps last week, performs and whether Smith, who took checkdown after checkdown last week, can get the ball down the field.
